Transition into Autumn Photography

Transition into Autumn Photography

Saturday 14 September
Castle Bromwich - 11am - 2 Hours
Martin Tierney
Autumn is such a wonderful time of year for capturing the beauty of nature through photography. It's a season that evokes feelings of warmth, coziness, and tranquility. As winter approaches, there's a sense of anticipation and change in the air, especially when the orange leaves meet the first frost. It's a great opportunity to capture these seasonal transitions and enhance the beauty of autumn in your photographs. I find that some of the most captivating autumn photos feature subjects that seamlessly blend in with their surroundings, creating a harmonious and serene atmosphere. In photography, just like in any form of art, there's such beauty in creating images that stand as pieces of art in their own right, without the need for explanation or context. The photo itself is a pure expression of creativity and emotion. The gardens are spacious and long, offering countless opportunities for photography, so bring a variety of lenses.

I ventured out just before Sunrise with some Architectural images of Birmingham Library in mind. After taking a number of shots of the Library and the Cube buildings, I noticed this wonderful contrast between the old Victorian building and the modern building, I thought that the juxtaposition of the two eras in Architecture would make a great image. I decided to shoot it in a portrait frame as I think this gives the best composition.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off.
