Street Photography - Birmingham City Centre - 11am - 2 Hours
Street photography can be addictive, but also frustrating at times! When there’s so much going on in front of your camera, it can be hard to pick out what to focus on and shoot. In this session we’ll be looking at how to separate a good photo story from the noise, and how to improve the photos you take when out and about with your camera.

or Buy a Voucher as a gift
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Birmingham. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

Fill Flash & External Flash Photography - Custard Factory, Degbeth - 11am - 2 Hours
Natural light is a favourite of many portrait photographers. There are times, however, when available light is poor quality and you simply need more to make a photo pop! When balanced correctly with your available light, flash can coexist beautifully to enhance your images. Off Camera Flash is when you syncing your camera with your flash. This allows you to take the flash off your camera so that you can illuminate your subject for a different angle. Taking the flash off your camera opens up a world of different options when it comes to diffusing the light through various umbrellas, softboxes and beauty dishes. The flash acts as a second light source, filling in areas where the image is underexposed due to the camera’s metering mode prioritising a different part of the frame. Learn techniques on how to use your flash off camera in this class.

Sunset Photography - Gas Station Basin Birmingham - 8:00pm - 2 Hours
A beautiful sunset can be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Photographers refer to the last (dusk) hours of the day as the "golden hours" when the light is at its best for photography. Our light meters can be thrown off by the strong amount of light hitting our sensor, so we will be exploring manual mode and exposure compensation to intensify the colours of our sunset.

I had fun and learned things around storytelling and how the technical aspects of photography work together. I have a desire to do more which is always a good sign. It was confidence building and a safe space to make mistakes:)

It was a good size group - I think 4 to one teacher is a good ratio. Martin was really helpful and provided general tips as well as helping improve the shots I was taking. I would definitely book again. I thought it was good value for money.

This was my first time of attending one of the group sessions and I thoroughly enjoyed my time. I have been self taught through reading and watching videos, but to have the benefit of asking a very knowledgeable instructor I feel I have learned more. I'll definitely be attending further sessions.
